SOCIETY NEWS
On behalf of the committee and all the membership
I would like to thank the thirty people or so who turned up for the
Wood Working Party in March, when over two hundred shrubs were
planted on the northern edge of the reserve.
Blackthorn, Hawthorn, Guelder Rose, Willow and
Spindle were planted which should increase the number of associated
species in the wood and provide food for the birds.
Fifteen of you turned up for our annual tidy up
of local rights of way, which this year was in Welton and such
action has to earn thanks also.
A number of fields have come on the market in our
area recently and it has been our aim for some time now to own a
meadow, probably reseeded to replace the meadows we have lost as a
community over the last few years. The important thing being to
create a meadow with public access for all to enjoy. With today's
prices this is going to be an uphill task, however one of our
members suggested that where there was a will there was a way so
taking him at his word please think about our small problem next
time you meet your Solicitor or Bank Manager. Or perhaps I will
spend an extra pound on the Lottery and if someone above smiles upon
me then I will see to it that WARCS gets it's meadow. Honestly.
